James Capellini
James
Capellini was born in Chicago in 1964. He holds a degree in philosophy from the University of Tampa, and has been a student of meditation and spiritual
practice for over twenty years. He has traveled widely in India,
lived in a remote Baul ashram in Bengal, and taught
philosophy and religion at the Kodaikanal International School in Tamil Nadu, India. An enthusiastic musicologist,
Capellini studies the music of the Bauls of Bengal and
occasionally performs wearing traditional dress and playing
the one-stringed ektara. For many years Jim directed
The Baul Theatre Company, an amateur theatre troupe, and
worked as the shop foreman for a mid-sized construction
company. He currently lives in Arizona and Washington, where
he manages construction projects.
