Although tattoos traditionally served significant religious
and social functions in ancient cultures and indigenous tribes, they were considered taboo in the West for centuries. Arising out of the contemporary culture of the streets, tattoos have gained ground in recent decades as symbolic emblems of life on Earth in our millenium.
